We are holding an solo exhibition of work by emerging Korean artist KOH Myung-Keun. In its effort to focus on emerging artists, Tokyo Gallery held a two-man show of KOH Myung-Keun and Chinese artist LU Hao, in January 2004. In this upcoming exhibition we will present his new works.
KOH Myung-Keun is an artist who makes three-dimensional works using film which has images of landscapes and human figures printed on it. From the beginning, his works has been about the use of light as expression, but it is his works which focus on "light" itself as a form of contemporary art which stand out in particular. The theme in KOH Myung-Keun's works is "the permeability of light." The layering of his images transcends the limitations of the flatness of photographs and make a three-dimensional form of expression possible. Within his work, the "Body Series," which uses ancient Greek and ancient Roman sculpture as a motif became the talk of the ARCO art fair in Spain, and exhibited in his solo exhibition at the Andong Museum in Korea, it was this series which received the most attention.
